The Anti-Waste Caravan at School, 22-25 October 2018

Between October 22nd and 25th, along with our friends from Mai Mult Verde, we organized a caravan of documentary films that traveled across the country, in order to talk about the topic of food waste to high school students.

According to recent statistics by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, up to one-third of world food production is wasted before it reaches the population.

We crossed the country from north to south and from east to west, using two documentaries (Cabbage, Potatoes and Other Demons by Serban Georgescu and North of the Sun by Inge Wegge and Jørn Ranum) to have debates with students from the following high schools: The "Ştefan Odobleja" National Pedagogic College from Drobeta-Turnu Severin, the Calisttat Hogaş National College from Piatra Neamţ, the Roman Voda College from Roman, the "Unirea" National College from Focsani, the "Ioan Petruş" Theoretical High School from Otopeni, the "Mihail Cantacuzino" College from Sinaia and the "Pamfil Şeicaru" High School from Ciorogârla.

After the screenings, we organized interactive activities for the students, specifically designed in order to help them develop a set of responsible attitudes towards the environment and to encourage critical thinking about the topic of excessive consumption. The talks addressed issues related to recycling, responsible consumption, and our individual potential to reduce the waste of food and other natural resources.

The anti-waste caravan was organized in partnership with LIDL Romania and with the support of CEZ Group and the Romanian-American Foundation.
